Talk:Visiting Wikisourcing Sustainable Enterprises
From [[http://cpsquare.org CPsquare]], the community of practice on communities of practice.
Here is a lightly edited transcript of the chat room notes from this field trip:
john david smith: For those who might see these notes afterward, the launch page for todayo's session is here: http://cpsquare.org/wiki/Visiting_Wikisourcing_Sustainable_Enterprises
Sylvia Currie: That seems to be a common dilemma these days. So much information
john david smith: Profile example: http://open-sustainability.org/wiki/WSE/Hunter_Lovins
Sylvia Currie: Interesting questions/prompts in the profile
Lotte - Vienna: How did you get you first 6 profiles?
Trudy Johnson-Lenz: what innovations do you want ppl to adopt? is it wse? specific "best practices" from sus enterprises that are profiled?
elmibester: do you provide any active support to people to get them to start to contribute - for instance first time wiki users?
Trudy Johnson-Lenz: I thought Karl just talked about the challenges of getting people to adopt wse.
Karl: I'm happy to clarify
Trudy Johnson-Lenz: A story of any sustainable enterprise is useful, *and* each org is different, so there are additional things that need to happen to adapt innovative practices to a given situation.
Lynn Tveskov: Jenny - in your presentation, you mentioned that WSE had to shift to something more "intentional" in your approach. What was going on - or not going on - that required this shift?
Christina: Have you been able to prove that those little snippets of information have a positive impact on performance? If so, how?
john david smith: writing the sustainable enterprise field book as a predecessor project.
john david smith: connection to the "we are smarter" initiative from MIT.
john david smith: Sylvia has been talking with a group of students who want to present their community (sustainability related) in a future filed trip.
Sylvia Currie: Interesting idea. Seems that could really lead to a lot of activity
john david smith: invisible platforms?
Sylvia Currie: Yes, a future field trip, if all falls into place, will be to explore the "campus climate network". Some parallels with this in terms of involving educational programmes.
john david smith: ning is the place for chatting in the WSE project.
Trudy Johnson-Lenz: Is the central mission of WSE to produce and share profiles of sustainable enterprises? Do you have a strong indication that people want, need, and will use such profiles?
john david smith: "Confluence" a piece of software?
Sus Nyrop: Confulence seem to be sort of an extra layer to sharepoint
Sus Nyrop: http://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/
Trudy Johnson-Lenz: I thought Confluence was an atlassian product.
Sus Nyrop: It is Trudy, but you can intergate with Sharepoint
Sylvia Currie: Nothing worse than that "where do I post this?" feeling :-)
Asif: GoogleDoc type platform with ability to comment in different ways
Barb McDonald: never a good idea to slap discussion forums on top of a document management system
Asif: With Skype-like realtime communications attached
victoria Axelrod: Trudy, excellent question about market need for sustainable enterprise profiles. This is yet to be determined. It is only an assumption.
Sus Nyrop: There is an interesting blog post disucssing how to use sharepoint as wiki with Confuelnce http://blogs.atlassian.com/news/2009/03/comparing_sharepoint_to_confluence_wiki.html
Asif: small contributions often articulate what hasn't been said yet
Sylvia Currie: Good point Asif. And also basic contributions/questions are useful
Jenny: Asif: Appreciating your "small contributions point to the edge"
Trudy Johnson-Lenz: Have you seen Gil Friend's book, "The Truth About Green Business? Blurb: "The Truth About Green Business, by Natural Logic CEO Gil Friend, brings together 52 crucial facts and insights leaders must know to successfully “go green.” This book delivers quick, plain-English explanations that executives, decision-makers, and entrepreneurs can actually use, no matter what kind of businesses they’re running, or what their environmental and profit goals are."
Sylvia Currie: Thanks for that, Trudy. I like the "plain English" part!
john david smith: google doc and skype at the same time.
john david smith: a very good combo.
Sylvia Currie: Google doc - can start to add the structure to the conversation
Sylvia Currie: skype chat chronological
john david smith: Clay Shirky talks about power law in "here comes everybody"
Sus Nyrop: I really liked slide # 18
Sylvia Currie: http://cpsquare.org/wiki/Visiting_Wikisourcing_Sustainable_Enterprises
Lynn Tveskov: If it's not too much trouble for Jenny and Victoria, I'd love to know what their reflections are as a result of this meeting.
Kathleen Anderson: thanks! very interesting. Lots of challenges i'm certain many of us can relate to.
Jenny: Thanks everybody for encouraging us on with fresh perspective.
john david smith: Thanks everyone!
Lynn Tveskov: Thank you!
Lotte - Vienna: one idea: let people freely sign up to your ning
Jenny: Goodbye. You know where to find us to continue the conversation.
Kathleen Anderson: I really appreciate the importance of the work you are doing. we all stand to benefit.
Thanks to everyone who participated and especially to the presenters!--John Smith 00:51, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
